It is located at 38a Pavlou Mela St., P.C. 12131, in Peristeri, Attica. In March 2012, our Centre established two Sheltered Apartments in Peristeri and Ilion, Attica, respectively, and they have been fully operational since March 2013. This is the new home for 4 residents who previously lived in our Centre’s Residential Care Facilities or other Psychosocial Support Units, and whose functional abilities have developed sufficiently for them to now live in a more independent environment.
Identity and Licensing
Sheltered Apartment (A’), for 4 residents, attached to Residential Care Facility (A’) for 15 people with severe intellectual disability and secondary mental disorders, has been operating in Peristeri since March 2013. It is one of the housing facilities of the Hellenic Association for Psychosocial Support, Rehabilitation and Community Care, a Civil Non-Profit Company. It is a licensed mental health unit, whose main purpose is the psychosocial rehabilitation of its residents. Its establishment and operation have been successively approved and licensed by the Ministry of Health: with Feasibility Approval Υ5β/Γ.Π./οικ.24133 of 9 March 2012, Establishment Licence Α4β/Γ.Π.74471 of 19 December 2014 and Operating Licence Α4β/Γ.Π.83795 of 22 October 2015. Its operation is supervised by the Directorate of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health and the 2nd Health Region (DYPe) of Piraeus and the Aegean. Its operation is funded by the Ministry of Health.
As a mental health unit, the Sheltered Apartment accommodates 4 residents with intellectual disability or mental disorders who have developed sufficient autonomy to live in a more independent environment. They mainly come from Residential Care Facility (A’) “Odysseas” or other Psychosocial Support Units.
Human Resources
The Sheltered Apartment is served by a Nurse-Coordinator, as well as professionals who also support Residential Care Facility (A’) “Odysseas” — a psychiatrist, a psychologist and a social worker — ensuring support, supervision and care for the residents, with the aim of enabling them to live with dignity and as equals within the community. The psychosocial rehabilitation of the residents is a shared goal of everyone who works daily at the mental health unit.
Psychosocial Rehabilitation: Our Philosophy
The Sheltered Apartment follows the same approach as all the Centre’s Housing Facilities, as described in detail in the section “Organisation and Operating Rules in the Residential Care Facilities”: respect for each resident’s individuality, support tailored to their level of autonomy, and gradual reintegration into society on equal terms. The aim is always the psychosocial rehabilitation of every resident.
